The lights are changing in the rain
Green to amber and red again
It’s a new day old days left behind
I am just a shadow
A visitor on Europe’s road
Alone we come into this world
And alone we go
But I have friends I know
And there’s a place to go
Even for a shadow
Another day another town
I go to work when the sun goes down
Cities count the days along the way
Driving through the pouring rain
Heading for the next meeting place
People waiting there I am expected
But why do I turn back
To watch the big trucks climb
And struggle up that hill
Just to vanish in the haze
Lights turn to amber then green again
But there is a place to go
Even for a shadow
The seconds pass with each white line
But up there the sun still shines
Moving slow behind a curtain sky
That’s enough for reasons why
And I know that
I found some treasures here
Caresses of gold I’ll keep forever
Along with tears of silver in a special box
But still I like to watch
The highway in the rain
And there is a place to go
Even for a shadow
And I have a place to go Even for a shadow
